President's Message

August, 2018

The start of the 2018-2019 school year inevitably brings change. This year, many of the local Harford County PTAs are inviting new officers, new families, and returning community members to join their organization!

Each Harford County PTA/PTSA is comprised of ONLY volunteers. Not one single person gets a paycheck for the hours they invest in the community. Our bottom line continues to be: Every Child. One Voice. As a PTA community, we have a responsibility to work together. The Harford County Council of PTAs (HCCPTA) is here to assist.

This year, I plan to distribute a newsletter of upcoming events and PTA news you can use around the county. Have a best practice that you’d like to share? E-mail me at president@hccpta.org. Harford County is filled with good news stories! Consider sharing yours with our PTA community!

Near term upcoming events include: Local unit training: August 29, 2018. A copy of the flyer has been posted to the website. Also, mark your calendars for October 4th for our Legislative Night at 7:00 p.m. at Bel Air High School. Come with questions for the candidates!

Thank you for all you do in support of the mission.

Best wishes,

Dear Harford County PTA Leaders,

I wanted to take a few minutes to personally welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year!  I am amazed at how quickly the summer has passed but am certainly eager to see all the great things in store for our children and families this year!

For those who have enrolled in tomorrow's training & networking event, I'll see you then.  To those who haven't, I ask you to consider joining us at one of our events scheduled later in the school year.  Training doesn't need to be a one-and-done activity.  You may join us at any of our scheduled trainings AND events!
Don't forget to bring a copy of your membership form with you tomorrow!  I'll join your PTA/PTSA!  Can't attend tomorrow's networking event?  Email me your form!  Invite our Board of Education members - especially those from your district - to join as well.

Let's also remember that we are called to advocate in support of our children and public school funding.  Last year was just the beginning!  Harford County remains 24 out of 24 counties in per pupil funding.  We need to stay engaged and aware of how steady-state funding impacts all children enrolled in HCPS.

And finally, Knight Insurance will be providing hosting several webinars, in the not-so-distant future.  See attachments 2-4 for more information.

I look forward to serving with you during this school year.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at: president@hccpta.org.

Thank you for all you do!

Renee

On Monday, January 28, at 6:30 p.m. the HCCPTA will be hosting a budget advocacy session to discuss how this community can advocate for positive changes to the current budget crisis expecting to impact HCPS and, more directly, our children.

Our guest speaker will be Mrs. Laura Runyeon, Vice President, Board of Education.
The venue is still TBD, but I wanted to allow you an opportunity to reserve the date.  Additional information will follow soon.
